Who’s Going To Dress Melania Trump?

January 11, 2017

The beautiful Melania Trump (born Melanija Knavs) is  a slovene-born American former model about to become the second foreign-born First Lady of the United States on January 20th, 2017.

There is a lot of Buzz in the Fashion World as designers have taken sides as to who will dress Melania and who outright said they will not.  As the debate goes on, it seems more and more designers are stepping up to the plate and now her options are quickly growing.   Who wouldn’t want to dress her?    The publicity will be tremendous and I would be honored if I were a designer to dress her. Although  it is customary for the First Lady to wear American designers during her time in Washington, we will have to wait and see who she chooses.    One designer who made it clear he will not dress her is designer Tom Ford as he told The View ” I was asked to dress her quite a few years ago and I declined, she’s not necessarily my image”.. he went on to explain “even if Hillary won she wouldn’t be wearing my clothes, they are too expensive.    He believes the first Lady has to relate to everyone and wear affordable designs.

Tommy Hilfiger

“Yes, I would dress Melania. I think she is a beautiful woman who would make any designer’s clothes look great” —WWD

Diane von Furstenberg
“Donald Trump was elected and he will be our president. Melania deserves the respect of any first lady before her. Our role as part of the fashion industry is to promote beauty, inclusiveness, diversity. We should each be the best we can be and influence by our example.” —WWD

Sam and Libby Edelman

Sam: “Oh, I would love to dress her. There is nothing that would make me happier. And I would love her to wear Sam Edelman’s shoes. Beautiful lady. She is going to be First Lady and represent our country throughout the world, and she should wear Sam Edelman shoes.”

Libby: “She is the First Lady, he is the president, and we should support them.”

Sam: “And she is beautiful.” —The Cut

Marcus Wainwright, rag & bone

“It would be hypocritical to say no to dressing a Trump. If we say we are about inclusivity and making American manufacturing great again, then we have to put that before personal political beliefs.” —The New York Times

Thom Browne

“Out of respect for the position of the First Lady of our United States, I would be honored to be considered to design for any First Lady of the United States.” —WWD

  • Personally speaking, I think Melania has beautiful style and really doesn’t need anyone to dress her.   Designers that are American and make their garments in America should be proud to dress Melania and Ivanka.   Isn’t this what we are all about? …..keeping jobs in the USA and having our garments made in the USA ….Making America Great Again!
