Swimsuits… Ready, Set, Splash!

April 1, 2014

l-space-le-chic_8If you’ve been treading water with a “good enough” swimsuit, it’s time to make more of a splash. With all the style variety, color options, mix and matches, you owe it to yourself to take a cannonball approach to this year’s swimsuit shopping…
Don’t be afraid to try on a variety of styles, and colors. Strike a balance between understanding what looks good on your figure and also being open to trying on new styles. After the cut and fit is decided, then consider color. So if you’re pale, a black, dark brown, or navy may compliment your skin tone better than white or pastels… You need to be prepared to try on a lot of swimsuits, and that means shopping on a day that you aren’t rushed, (hungry, cranky or with the kids) and well in advance of your flight for vacation..
I have outlined some of the best shapes and styles to look for now and some advice on finding your very own miracle suit…
Goodbye angst. Hello sun, fun and poolside!

String Bikini:

The ultimate beach buddy! This style works best for average size busts, though molded cups can help make smaller chests appear bigger. A ruffled bikini works well for a boyish figure and white translates as a boost for smaller, petite frames. (Keep in mind that white bikini’s need to be double lined or they are see-through) Here’s my pick

Tankini:

This style offers a laid back style and is quite comfortable for active Moms at the beach & pool or for those who like a little more coverage. This style won’t offer control or shaping for fuller waists. Try this

Shirt Bikini:

Quite sassy and very individual, this is usually put with a tiny bikini bottom, which elongates the waist which is flattering unless you’re already long-waisted. The fuller top balances the hips and creates a long lean effect. Take a look

One piece:

This style has made a huge comeback by literally every designer and can be just as sexy and chic as a bikini. I love a great one piece! A great style if you’re looking to camouflage a few trouble spots. Gathered fabric, shirring and rouching works well for thicker mid sections, it will help reduce the appearance of bulges and create the illusion of a defined waist. Love this

Two-Tone Bikini:

This style works great for pear shapes or if you are bottom heavy. By selecting a dark bottom and lighter top, this will automatically draw the eye upward instead of down. A twisted bandeau top and angled straps also help frame and create cleavage for those who are smaller up top. There are a lot of great sites that allow you to build your own swimsuit where you pick the color and style you want..L-Space is one of my favorites.
